Freestanding Wall at Hanscom field

Steere Engineering performed the design of the free-standing wall at Hanscom Field. This work included the preparation of plans, specifications and construction inspection.

The wall was designed in accordance with MassPort standards and included a 250mph jet thrust force. Steere developed details for the connection of the proposed wall(s) to the existing masonry faced reinforced concrete walls and developed detailing of the wall to match and complement the existing walls. The wall is 235’ long and stands approximately 10’ tall.

Steere coordinated the location of the proposed wall footing with the foundation of the existing Building 17 Hangar, the proposed Hangar for Jet Aviation and the overhead and subsurface utilities.

Steere provided construction inspection services at specific times during the construction process. This included verification of the sub-base conditions, inspection of the wall formwork and reinforcing steel placement, monitoring of the concrete pours and the inspection of the masonry face installation.
